P05: The 3Ms

(Supporting diagrams)

Further exploration of the scheme on the three scales of Macro, Meso and Micro; a summary of the project so far

Programme

Ground Floor: Parking layout

The existing carpark behind the Essoldo has been kept and reconfigured for the scheme. Priority is given to staff members and neighbouring residents to address issues of capacity, convenience, accesibility and public/ private space.

Solar geometry and privacy strategies

Section: sun angle at summer solstice 9AM

Section: Proposed façade articulation

Section: resolved building geometry

The site isn't overcast by adjacent structures so has
great access to light. The parking lot at ground level
requires maximum day lighting whilst being secure to
discourage unwanted public behaviour

The façade has been angled to emphasise the relationship with the canal, utilising caustic light for atmospheric effect. This also maximises the floor area of the 1st and 2nd stories and the canal path creating a more open space. The site and canal will be made more visable by doing so from the south and by padestrians arriving from the tram station through mass and reflection.

A path from the bridge down to the canal side will also
be integrated into the multi-functional facade creating
much needed connectivity. This shall be achieved in a way that allows for natural lighting.
