P06: The Big Model

A greyboard model that describes the scheme at a more human experience, focusing on light, scale and atmosphere

Reflective light dispersed and projected onto the suspended ceilings

Long reaching light and shade throughout the building during winter

Ramped circulation between the 1st floor/ bridge down to the canal pathway

A regimented series of structural members act as a barrier onto which a perforated cladding will be fixed, making the parking area inaccessible to the public. This facade treatment will be unitised and repeated elsewhere in the design, also allowing dappled light to deeply penetrate into the private ground floor area for adequate natural lighting.

Utilisation of reflective light

Enabled by the canal's orientation and the articulation of the facade, the building and water's surface will be depicted in each other creating an interesting dynamic. This will give the canal greater exposure from the street side and will cast caustic light onto the restaurant's ceiling, controlled by fenestration and solar shading, giving  appreciation and expression to the context.

Vista

Expansive modular windows allow for a desirable uninterrupted view from dining spaces out to the surrounding
context. Exterior circulation paths adjoin to the window creating a relationship between internal and external space framing the movement of people, canal, vehicles and natural life.

Moving Forwards:

- Excessive amount of structure used for walkway can be reduced to improve  material costs

- The Bar's location obstructs the view and creates awkward spaces, needs to be relocated

- Additional solar devices on façade for greater user control, e.g. blinds for activities requiring  low lighting

- Align load paths from columns directly from the roof to the ground

- Decide connections of elements to the façade, plus interface between floor slabs and the Essoldo
